Uganda has imported armoured police cars, similar to those Kenya acquired at the end of January, ahead of its general election set for February 18.
The vehicles have features including water cannons, riot controls and wedged front plows.
The Star spotted them at G-section in the Port of Mombasa but Kenya Ports Authority officials declined to comment on the "sensitive" matter.
Uganda Consular General Tayebwa Katureebe said he has not received any information concerning the marked vehicles.
"I am not aware about police cars at the Port, but if they are there they are not meant for elections," Katureebe said.

He noted that Uganda has been part of the war against terror for a long time, including joining the fight against al Shabaab in Somalia in 2007.
This year's election pits Museveni, who is seeking to extend his 30-year rule, against longtime opposition leader Kizza Besigye and his ally-turned-rival, Amama Mbabazi.
Rights groups have accused the Uganda government of using state security to stifle criticism and intimidate Museveni's rivals, charges the state denies.PHOTOS BY ELKANA JACOB/http://www.the-star.co.ke/news/2016/02/04/uganda-imports-armoured-police-cars-ahead-of-february-18-general_c1288972

                                        DEADLY VIRUS HITS UGANDA
The turnoff into the Zika Forest is easy to miss, just a small break in the tree line along the main road between Entebbe Airport and Uganda's capital, Kampala. A worn-out sign announcing its start only comes into view after a journey down a small dirt path.
The explosive spread of the Zika virus may have caught the world by surprise, but its namesake, the forest preserve near the edge of Lake Victoria, isn't a place to just stumble on to. The researchers who have been coming here for more than a half-century come with a purpose: to study viruses and the mosquitoes that carry them.
A well-worn sign is the only indication of the start of the Zika forest, Uganda's only preserve devoted entirely to science research.
"Every year we come across new viruses," said Julius Lutwama, lead researcher at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), which owns the forest. "In the last five years or so, almost each year we come across a new virus in this country."
Uganda sits in the middle of seven distinct biogeographic zones. To the east: the savannahs of Kenya and Tanzania. To the west: the Congo basin rainforest. And Lutwama credits that biodiversity for attracting the first scientists here in the 1930s.ZIKA FOREST GROUND ZERO

I CAN,WE CAN DEFEAT CANCER

In a year their many celebrations for many occasions,as away for us to rejuvenate ourselves for the millage our footsteps have taken, from the day go however their celebrations that do not celebrate the overall triumph but rather the small pieces of achievements that have been made by many people around the world.celebrating those who are still in the struggle to see a cancer free world and celebrating those who fought to see that we are here where we are today.cancer in itself is no longer a threat to humanity,it is preventable and curable.this has been able to be a success story today worldwide because people like you cared enough to do something but still it doesn't mean that we stop now,i say lets keep the fight until one day cancer will be no more.honestly from my heart,as a volunteer with Uganda child cancer foundation,i personally would like to remind  every one who wouldn't  mind to see the world a cancer free society,to take a stand and do something tomorrow to make a change.
